STANDARD / TETRA

TETRA radio coverage

TETRA is the dominant trunked radio standard for public safety and critical infrastructure across Europe, the Middle East and much of Africa. This page explains what it is, where it is deployed, and how our repeaters extend it into tunnels, basements and remote sites.

THE STANDARD

What TETRA radio is

TETRA (Terrestrial Trunked Radio) is a ETSI-standardised digital trunked radio technology. Unlike conventional simplex radio, every terminal is a full duplex trunked station on a shared network, so a single channel carries many talk groups. That is what makes it practical for dispatch centres, metro systems, airports, ports and mine sites — and it is also why coverage has to be engineered rather than assumed: the network needs usable signal where people actually are.

HOW WE COVER IT

How we extend TETRA coverage

Our TETRA line covers the full form range: off-air receive (RF donor), BTS-coupled fibre, off-air coupled fibre, digital fibre (SDR), tunnel coverage and pico / micro-cell. Models are named by form, standard, band, power and bandwidth, so you can read a model number and know what you are getting — for example KT-A-T-B4P37B is an off-air receive, TETRA, 400 MHz, +37 dBm, band-selective unit.

FAQ

Common questions

What is the difference between band-selective and channel-selective?

A band-selective unit passes the whole licensed band through. A channel-selective unit passes only the channels it is set to, which cuts interference when several clusters share a site. For metros and tunnels we normally recommend channel-selective.

Can one repeater serve several TETRA standards?

Yes. Our TETRA-platform units are also compatible with TETRAPOL, P25, DMR, analog FM and GSM — the radio path is the same, and the channel plan is what differs.

How do I get a datasheet and a quote?

Find the model in our model list, tick what you need, and send the list. Models with a datasheet on file can be claimed immediately; the rest we confirm internally and send on, with a quote.
